Pre-diabetes Class

Mercy Iowa City diabetes educator Sue Szczech, RN, CDE, and a Mercy dietitian will offer a class on pre-diabetes four times per year. The next class will be Thursday, June 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. in
McAuley Room, Mercy Medical Plaza.

The class is intended for people with fasting blood sugars between 100 and 125, glucose intolerance or impaired fasting glucose. The goal is to help at-risk individuals reverse habits that may be leading toward a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and its many complications. Topics will include metabolic syndrome, exercise, diet, exercise, and diabetes prevention. Class fee is $25.

Approximately 54 million people in the U.S. have pre-diabetes and many are not aware of it. Recent research shows that some long-term damage, especially to the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre-diabetes.

For more information or to sign up, contact Mercy On Call at 358-2767 or 800-358-2767.
